About Classic UK Cars

I was born in the early 1950’s and have been interested in cars for as long as I can remember. My father was a partner in a garage and we lived next door to the premises. Hopefully I’ll find some photos to put on the site.

My earliest recollections are of having Dinky Toys and Corgi Toys and of my dad having a Blue Mark 1 Ford Zephyr. Most of my spare time was spent at the garage and I recollect always being a ‘scruffy’ kid with dirty hands through ‘messing about’ with cars.

Dad went through a range of cars, usually being a Ford Zephyr or Zodiac and later Mark 2 and ‘S’ Type Jaguars with some American cars along the way!

Through the garage I was lucky enough to be able to sit in and inspect all sorts of cars from Austin Healeys, Jaguars, Jensens and even an Aston Martin. I can also recall going to the Motor Show at Earls Court almost every year from 1957 and seeing the latest models on display, never realizing that lots of those cars would finish up as a pile of rust in a scrapyard whilst some of them would become today’s classics and worth multi-million pounds (or dollars if you prefer). I also saw first hand many of the ‘concept’ cars or obscure cars that many people, even ardent classic car enthusiasts never knew existed (Who remembers the Lea Francis Lynx, the Panther Solo or the Ford Cortina allegedly Stirling Moss’s ‘Dream Car’).

When I was old enough to drive, my first ‘car’ was a Messerschmitt 3 wheeler, whilst my first ‘proper’ car was an MG Midget Mark 1, followed by other MGs, Austin Healeys, Jaguars and a Ford Cortina GT. My greatest passion remains the British Sports Cars of the 1960s and particularly MGs, Jaguars and the early Lotus Elans. I hope you find something of interest and that you visit us again.
